From Linda Knapp:
Harlan Spieker, Ann Murphy's father,
[an elder serving] the Watertown Congregation, was seriously
injured by one of his cows May 21st
and needs your immediate prayers on his behalf. Apparently,
Harlan accidentally got between a cow and her new calf and was
knocked down by the cow and crushed. She broke four of his front
ribs and three of his back ribs and this caused a punctured
lung. He and his wife, Janice, are in the ICU right now and the
doctors say the next 48 hours will be critical.
Update from Ann Murphy: got home from Watertown...and was able to be at the hospital today between 5 and 8 p.m. All of his left side is bruised (down to his hip) very severely and it's hard for him to breathe deep breaths, as you can imagine. Even with morphine, he sits very still and doesn't move much...because even shifting his weight or raising his shoulders makes it hard to breathe. But he's still smiling! The cow was not acting suspicious in any way....snorting or even noticing Dad for that matter....and then just turned on him as he was ear tagging the newborn calf. The cow headed him 3-4 times and then stomped on him 3 times. Your prayers are greatly appreciated...as this will mean a long recovery time...and not much farming on his part for the summer. May 26 Update from Herb Teitgen
I called Harlan this evening and he is
home now. He is doing better but it is still painful to breath and
hard to get a full lung of air. He is on oxygen to keep his oxygen
level up to normal. He appreciates all the prayers.
