Joan Misner Widmer Nielander, 79, of Flora, died Dec. 27, 2010, at Seton Specialty Hospital. She was born March 11, 1931, in Lafayette, to the late Samuel A. and Thelma Barlow Misner. She married H. Leroy “Doc” Widmer in 1950 in Otterbein and he preceded her in death. In 1974, she married Paul Eugene “Gene” Nielander in Lafayette and he preceded her in death in 2005.

Surviving are her children, David Widmer of Los Angeles, Kathy Widmer Badgley (husband: Bob) of Rocklin, Calif., John Widmer (wife: Susan) of West Lafayette, Roger Widmer (wife: Jodi) of Geneva, Ill., and Scott Widmer (wife: Bonnie) of Kidron, Ohio; stepsons, Mike Nielander (wife: Vicki) of Kokomo and Patrick Nielander (wife: Linda) of Columbus; brothers, Tom Misner (wife: Anne) of Casselberry, Fla., and Steve Misner (wife: Bonnie) of West Lafayette; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette. The service will be there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
