Death of Calvin Lee
Visit Prayer Page Home UPDATED June 17, 2010 After about a year of struggling with cancer,
Calvin Lee passed away on Thursday afternoon, June 10th, with his wife
of almost 50 years at his side. While we're sad about his death, we're
also grateful that his suffering has come to an end, and very much
comforted by the knowledge that we'll see him again. We appreciate very
much the prayers, cards, well-wishes, and assistance that so many people
have provided. In case you decide to announce this in the congregations where people know us, the address for cards is:
Heinke Lee UPDATED June 6, 2010 It's been quite some time since I provided an update on my dad. Since I last provided an update last fall, his condition became quite steady for a long period of time. My mom has continued to care for him at home with help from the hospice group, and he has received periodic respite care, at which time he spends five nights at a nursing home, allowing my mom to get some rest. His condition was so steady at one point in the late winter that the hospice workers were monitoring things closely to make sure he could still qualify under hospice, since it is intended only for people whose conditions are continuing to worsen. Over the last six or seven weeks, however, his condition has begun to deteriorate more noticeably again, and over the course of the last couple of weeks the symptoms of congestive heart failure have returned. He's begun to experience more difficulty breathing, and has now been on steady medication to help maximize his ability to get oxygen. Over the past week or so, he's become increasingly lethargic and begun to lose appetite quite significantly. We're grateful he's made it through this entire ordeal without significant amounts of pain, but it appears now that he is in the final stages of his struggle. We certainly appreciate everyone's prayers for him, and would ask that people continue to pray that God's will be worked out for him during the remaining days of his life.

UPDATED August 6, 2009 Its been a couple of weeks since I've provided an update on my dad. So much happens in such a relatively short period of time, but the best way to sum it up is that its been an up and down situation. As mentioned in my last update, his early progress as he started chemo was promising. However, as the subsequent days went on, he began to fight different health problems, including infections and a return of the congestive heart failure that he's battled in the past. From day to day there have been encouraging signs, as well as setbacks. Due to his heart condition, he has spent most of the last two weeks in the hospital again, rather than in the nursing home where he had gone shortly after his diagnosis. Unfortunately, the doctors have not been able to slow his heart rate, despite trying a number of different strategies, so he is currently bedridden and reliant on oxygen due to buildup of fluid in the lungs. Due to his overall condition, its been impossible at this time to continue with chemotherapy treatments. We all appreciate the many people who are praying for his health and ask that you continue to pray for God's mercy and care for my Dad. Its comforting to know in this situation that God's hand will guide things to the outcome that's best for all of us. Thanks again for your loving care and concern. We really appreciate it!
UPDATED July 24, 2009 Hello, and thank you so much for all of your prayers on behalf of my Dad and our family. The amount of cards he has received is amazing, and they are very encouraging to him and all of us. Dad has been back in the hospital since last Thursday evening with various complications from the chemo and radiation treatments. Things are finally beginning to look better, and we are hoping he can be released back to the Care Facility before the weekend. Radiation treatments have been resumed, and a second chemo treatment is scheduled for next Wednesday. The goal at the Care Facility will be physical and occupational therapy to help him regain the strength he needs to be able to come home. UPDATED July 17, 2009 I owe you a quick update on my Dad. Thanks again for posting the prayer request for him. After a number of tests, he was diagnosed with Lymphoma at a fairly advanced stage, so the doctors started him early last week on radiation and chemotherapy. So far, he has continued to gain strength despite those treatments, and is continuing to gain mobility as well. He was moved late last Friday to a nursing home. During this time, while he is not walking well on his own, this is the best option for getting to his daily radiation treatments, since my Mom wouldn't have the ability to get him back and forth by herself. We'll have to see how things progress over this roughly 18-week course of chemo (six treatments, administered every three weeks), but so far we're encouraged by the fact that he's eating well and gaining strength. I'll give you more updates as there's more news to report, but for now things at least have stabilized. Andy Lee (son) June 26, 2008 The Lee Family requests your prayers for Cal Lee. As many in Minneapolis know, he has not been feeling well for several weeks. After a number of tests, the doctors have determined that there is a tumor on the spine, a spot on the lung, and several affected lymph nodes in the chest. A biopsy of the spine was performed at the hospital today. The results will not be available for another couple days, but preparations for radiation treatments are scheduled to begin on Monday. Please remember our whole family during this difficult time - the decisions, the caretaking responsibilities and most of all the healing according to God's will. Note from Victor Kubik: I have known the Lee family for more that 43 years going back to pre-Ambassador College days in Minnesota. I remember the Lee family as pillars in the Minneapolis Church and their three wonderful children Linda, Barbara and Andy. Those who would like to write them, their address is: 2812 W 71st
