April 22, 2009

Greetings!

Just a quick note to everyone about my father's knee replacement surgery which took place this morning April 21.  I talked to the orthopedic surgeon as soon as the procedure was finished.  He was a little surprised at how bad and how much damage his left knee had sustained since the original surgery took place when he was in college at Georgia Tech during the early 1960's.  However he went on to say that the procedure went "very well" and he was "very pleased with the outcome".  He also stated he felt the range of motion and amount of function would be greatly increased.

As of now he is resting comfortably in a room at St. Joseph's hospital in Elmira, New York.  He is expected to be released some time on Thursday or Friday.  As of now he is not in any discomfort and says the knee replacement feels very good.  Thanks to everyone for your prayers and please continue to pray that everything will continue to go well and that he will have a speedy recovery without any complications.

Sincerely,

Bryant/Linda, Ron/Lori, and Hazel

PS:  The surgery went well--although Dr. Gibson said he had never seen so much damage in a knee.  He anticipates Johnnie will have much more mobility now.  The getting up and walking begins tomorrow; hopefully he will be home on Friday.

Thank you for your prayers, phone calls and other acts of concern.  They will help for a rapid healing.
