- Some background regarding Anne Schotter's work
Beverly and I had a very profitable and informative visit with Anne Schotter on October 11th in Tartu. She came 120 miles down from Tallinn to visit with us and discuss more about her
work. Through the generosity of Robert and Linda Gentry of Spokane, Washington we contributed $500 towards her Boy's Home in Tartu.
She is in the process of building a workshop behind the Boy's Home to provide constructive rehabilitation and a program of criminal prevention. She has been working hard to find financing to rebuild broken down sheds into a workshop and has worked with the Estonian ministry of education on this project. She showed us photos indicating that much of the work has been done, but still needs ventilation in the shop. She said that she will use the money donated to complete the workshop which is part of operation "Street Boy," as she calls it. She also says that she will need money for utilities and for hiring teachers.
Anne's other programs include:
- In the capital of Tallinn a halfway house for 40
- On the large sland of Saaremaa which lies due west of Estonia in the Baltic Sea, ten beds for ex-offenders and homeless and six for victims of crimes
- In an undisclosed location a shelter for battered women
- In the northeast, close to the Russian border, a program to help find work and living quarters for ex-offenders. She is currently negotiating with the Dutch government to help finance this program
These programs constitute the Social Rehabiliation Centre for which Anne Schotter is Executive Director. In Estonia there is no other program that comes close to doing the special type of rehabilitative work of Dr . Anne Schotter.
