We met Albert at Dr. Anne Schotter's home for boys in Tartu, Estonia.
Albert and other boys have come to live at the home temporarily as an alternative home to help them to stay off the streets and out of trouble. Some government aid in Estonia is provided for the facilities but each resident must be funded privately for food, clothing, and school needs.
At age ten the police found Albert at a railway station one hundred miles from his home. He was sent to the boys home and has come to appreciate the regular meals, clean environment and care that he receives there. He does go to visit his mother periodically, but worries that he may not be able to stay at the boys home for lack of funds.
Albert is talented musically. At age eleven, he can really play the piano! But, because of behavioral problems he was expelled from music school.
Often the boys are not happy when they are first sent to Anne's home because there are rules, curfews, chores and school to attend. Albert has been encouraging others to give it a chance. He tells them "I didn't like it at first, but now I'm happy here...."
Most boys stay one school year. Albert is in his second year there.
The home is in Tartu, Estonia and is one of four that Dr. Anne Schotter has founded to help boys like Albert. It is the only thing of its kind in all of Estonia. They are building a workshop at the back of the home in Tartu and hope to be able to furnish it with carpentry tools to teach wood working. Funds will be needed for an instructor.
We are looking for sponsors for the boys so that more of them can have a hope of staying off the streets and out of jail.
One hundred dollars a month or a portion thereof pays for clothes, food and school supplies.
Would you like to help sponsor Albert or one of the other boys? Any amount pledged is fine. Donatations are tax-deductible. If you so, please click here and write to Beverly Kubik for more information or give me a call at 317 216-0802.
Remember, all donations are tax-deductible!
We are going to write more about the work that Dr. Anne Schotter has done to rehabilitate young delinquents. Please come back and visit this page for updates.
