Greetings fellow Estonia travelers!

We are looking forward to meeting with all of you soon in Tartu Estonia!  Please remember to have your passport with you. You will not be able to get into Estonia without a valid passport.

We have made all the hotel reservations.

Pallas Hotel is located only one block from the Tartu bus station. Those arriving by bus may still want to hire a taxi to take them to the hotel if their luggage is heavy.

We are planning an October 13th Friday night meeting with a short service and refreshments. This will be at the Convention Center at the Atlantis where all of our meetings will be held. The Atlantis is located about a ten minute walk from the Pallas Hotel. This opening night will begin at 7:30 PM.

Please bring a hymnal to the Feast, as we have none there. If possible, bring an extra one for others who will be attending.

Gifts for Disabled Children at the Emajõe Kool

We will be visited by children from the Emajõe Kool, a school for disabled children.  They will perform songs for us after services on Tuesday October 17th.  On Tuesday afternoon we have arranged to take 30 of them on an outing with us.  A picnic lunch will be provided.  Last year this outing was a big hit for the children. We ask that you bring an educational or developmental toy with you as a gift for the children.  The school is very short of items like this and this will be greatly appreciated.  Also, please bring along a classical CD for the school. They would like to add to their library of classical music for the children to listen to. This would make a great gift.

I understand that several of you are bringing some very nice little gifts for all in the school.

We recommend that you change some money at the airport when you arrive. You may not get a chance to do so again until Monday afternoon.

Credits cards are accepted in most of the restaurants. Also, outdoor ATM machines are available at the banks. It is good to carry new unmarked US bills  for the cash that you plan to carry. They are always more accepted than old bills that have marks made on them. Traveler’s checks can be cashed at the banks.

Plan for cooler weather, which will range from 30 degrees to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It is good to bring an umbrella.

Please wear some identifying information such as a nametag at the Tallinn airport and bus station so that others from our group will recognize you.

Getting to Tartu from Tallinn by Special Taxi

Juta Kulbin has arranged for a gentleman to meet us at the airport (morning arrivals only) each of the arrival days. If everyone is on schedule he should be able to transport us from the Tallinn airport to the hotel in Tartu. His name Mati Rumm.  He is clean-cut, graying hair and in his mid-fifties. He does not speak English but he should be carrying a sign to identify himself. His cell phone number is 82 5077514. He says he has room for 8 people and will charge 1000 Estonian Kroon which will be divided by the number of people he transports. This should come to less than $10 per person.

Getting from Tallinn to Tartu by bus -- if you miss the taxi

At the airport you should be able to find someone who speaks English. Ask for a  taxi from the airport to the Tallinn bus station. The cost will be about four dollars. At the bus station you will need to purchase a bus ticket to ride the bus to Tartu. This will cost about $7 US.  You must use Estonian Kroons for payment for taxis and bus. You should go to the cashier’s window in the bus station and purchase the ticket. You can also purchase the ticket on the bus with Estonians Kroons (EEKs).  Find the schedule showing the buses going to Tartu. There is usually a bus about every hour headed for Tartu. Taxis are available at the bus station in Tartu to take you to your hotel. The trip from Tallinn to Tartu is 120 miles, about two and a half hours.
